To ensure you have a safe and enjoyable winter holiday, we want to let you know about a bylaw in the Queenstown Lakes District and Milford Sound regions. It states that:

“At the direction of an enforcement officer or authorised officer, the driver of any vehicle may be required to fit snow chains to such vehicle on any road, and no person shall drive, or direct or allow such vehicle to be driven without such snow chains fitted.”

As a result of multiple vehicles being caught without snow chains in heavy snowfall, there are now fines for non-compliance of this bylaw, this is a $150 fine for the Queenstown Lakes District and a $750 fine for Milford Sound.

We have snow chains available from all our Christchurch Airport, Queenstown Airport, Dunedin Airport and Invercargill Airport branches, and these can be added to your booking for as little as $15.00 per day, and capped at $105.00.

Ski Racks are also available to add to your booking, these can be added at our Christchurch Airport and Queenstown Airport branches only, and on specific car classes (subject to availability). The cost for ski racks is $15.00 per day, and this is capped at $105.00.
